Stone Writings #1
Stone writings is the subject of my Master's thesis in typographic design. Inspired by granitic chaos, I set out to study a form of writing produced by the earth itself, a form of writing in which stone is both a sign in the landscape and a medium for marks, cracks and graphic motifs. This dissertation brings together an exploration of the geological, spiritual and artistic dimensions of stone reading, as well as a definition of this writing outside the alphabet. And, between experience and a fantasy, I finally explored the different ways in which human can produce stone writings.
I was accompanied throughout this research by geologist Médard Thiry, a specialist in the sands and sandstones of Fontainebleau.
